Send an encrypted message through a secret link

A note that does not need a permanent inbox

A message works well for a temporary handoff, a private draft review, or instructions someone needs while you are both online. Recipients see a read-only message rather than a conversation. If everyone needs to reply, start a Peer chat instead.

You can write plain text or use the supported Markdown formatting. Importing a text or Markdown file fills the editor locally and does not create a link. Message text can contain up to 32 KiB of UTF-8 data; the number of characters depends on the language and symbols used.

Create and share your message

Add your text, optional files, or a voice recording. You can also create an attachment-only message. Review the draft before choosing Create a link: the published message and its attachment descriptions cannot be edited afterward.

1. Choose the message lifetime before creating the link.
2. Copy the complete secret link, including everything after #, and share it with the intended recipients.
3. Stay connected while your browser is needed to admit readers or supply file pieces.

Choose who keeps the message available

In the default creator mode, access depends on the original creator session. Leaving, closing, reloading, disconnecting, or expiry ends the message; other readers cannot keep it alive.

In carried mode, any admitted holder can keep the message available. The final holder leaving or expiring ends it. The original connected creator can use End while present, but cannot regain that authority after disconnecting. Reading the message does not automatically destroy it, and there is no fixed expiry timer for these modes.

Check the sender and protect the link

Current messages include a verified sender fingerprint. It identifies the signing key, not a verified real-world person. Open the sender details to compare a full ID through another trusted channel. Automatic identities differ by room; a saved identity allows peers to recognize the same key across future rooms.

The link is an access secret. Encryption protects the browser-to-browser content path, but cannot stop a recipient forwarding the link or saving the message. Held has no recovery mailbox, and ending access does not remove screenshots, copied text, or downloaded files.
